Made some improvements to the keyboard shortcuts!
Anywhere in the app:
- Nto create a new Note;
- Ito open image upload window;
- Bto create a new link artifact (Bookmark);
- Cto call the Collect window with the selection of the above options.
Additionally,
Cmd Enter
/Ctrl Enter
now collects your text artifact when you're adding it from the New note window.Hope this is useful! Please let me know how it goes.

Hello Igor Lanko,
thanks - yes, very useful 💙
I noticed that when adding a note the characters I, B and C trigger the shortcut → should I add a separate bug report for this?
Igor Lanko
Sven,
Glad to hear! Sorry about the shortcut conflict. I thought I fixed it last night! Thanks for the report, no need for a separate request, I'll take a look right away!
Igor Lanko
Sven, this is fixed now!

Hey Sven, I love shortcuts! Great suggestion.
There's actually
I
, B
, and N
, active when you click on the “Collect”, but of course Collect itself should also be some sort of a shortcut as well. Any suggestions? The search is also triggered with
Ctrl K
or Cmd K

The following would be great for the shortcuts...
➀ the possibility to set a global shortcut in the Chrome settings for the extension to quickly switch to Collecta
➁ a shortcut as simple as possible such as I, B, N (without having to activate Collect beforehand)
(simply allow the shortcuts directly as soon as the page has the focus) → the shortcuts must only be inactive when you are typing something on the page (e.g. in the search, a note, etc.)
➂ consistent use of ENTER throughout the app
(Example: when adding another tag/collection, ENTER is sufficient - when initially assigning tags/collections, you still have to click the update button ⇒ I would be happy if we could generally get by with ENTER only)
➃ where ENTER is not possible to confirm/save (e.g. in a note) → enable a “save” with CTRL+Enter
➄ Use ESC throughout to cancel (when creating a note, when searching, etc.) (for example, the search is canceled with ESC, but the search term is not deleted)

If I have not overlooked anything, then the shortcut CTRL+K in the Chrome browser does not work because this shortcut jumps to the address bar (not to the search field of collecta).

- A global shortcut that would be equal to just clicking on the Collecta icon on the toolbar? I thought about this, but because browser extensions is just a wild market, I feel like it's very easy to create a hotkey conflict and then get reports from users that Collecta interferes with some other extension, or even the website... But honestly not sure.
- Love it, that's how I'm going to do it!
- This might not be that simple unfortunately. When you're typing a new collection name, you have to confirm it with Enterfirst. If you setEnterto also assign it, it means all selected artifacts will instantly get the new collection tag. If we remove the auto closing of the top panel (because that's how it works right now), you'll then need to close it manually? Assuming it'sEscfor this, but still, feels like you need to manually do this?
What I do right now personally after I hit
Enter
on the new tag, I hit Tab
so that focus moves from the tags input to the Update
button, and then hit Spacebar
/Enter
to confirm the tags assignment. Basically just like any other web form. What do you think?
- I actually felt like auto saving of the artifact captions works well in terms of never losing what you wrote in there, because you don't have to manually confirm it. I agree it's not consistent with the Text notes for example (working on it), but captions seemed okay?
- The search term is preserved intentionally actually, so that you know what you searched for the last time. Does that create more problems than help?
Igor Lanko
Sven, as for the
Ctrl K
hotkey, I'll try to repro on a Windows machine and let you know! Thanks!S

about 1) I know from other Chrome extensions that you can configure several shortcuts and then there is sometimes the option to use the shortcut globally.
The global shortcut for Collecta should rather switch to the Collecta page (open it). Adding an artifact (like the extention button does) would not make much sense here, as I might not even be in the browser and the question would be what exactly should be added.
about 2) GREAT
about 3) maybe a solution could be that an ENTER confirms the update if no text has been entered for a new collection? Then we could save the TAB press - but yes - I could live with the additional tab press too.
❓ What I haven't figured out yet is why I have to use the update button at all - why can't it just be omitted? When adding collections to existing artifacts, it's not there either?
about 4) yes - I like the auto-save too - and I would like to have it everywhere if possible (see my question about the update button above)
What I actually meant here was to be able to call the back button via CTRL+ENTER in this case.
about 5) for me this doesn't seem very helpful because it “disturbs” when starting a new search.
I would have the suggestion to simply select the old search terms as soon as the search field gets the focus again. This way the search term is retained/shown, but you could immediately overwrite it with a new search term.
